2024 People’s Choice Roll of Honour

 

Thanks to the 16 writers who read at the 2024 People’s Choice — and to the many more who came along to the Supper Room at the Town Hall to listen, applaud and vote!

 

This year’s Roll of Honour:

Prose Winner:

Linelle Gibson for ‘Emma’

Linelle is a Williamstown local who has enjoyed writing letters, poetry and short stories since she was at high school.  She wrote short stories for both of her children when they were little. She is regularly published in The Age newspaper’s “And another thing” section.

 

Prose Runner-Up:

Julie Kernich for ‘Caught Between Two Worlds’

Julie began working life as a Registered Nurse. After several years she returned to University and changed her career to become a Chartered Accountant. She is also an aspiring fiction author with plans to publish her debut novel in 2024 and has done some acting for TV.

 

Poetry Winner:

Jonathan Griffiths for ‘At Home with Dad’

Jonathan is New Zealand born but now lives in Werribee. He is the author of two collections of short stories and several novels, the latest of which is the family adventure It Grows on Trees.

 

Poetry Runner-Up:

Jackie Kerin for ‘Where Do Stories Come From?’

Jackie is a Newport resident, author of nonfiction picture books for children,  a gardener, bird nerd and storyteller in the spoken tradition. Along with Em Chandler and Adrian Newington she coordinates the Newport Storytellers as part of the Newport Fiddle and Folk Club.
