From Local Boy to Laureate with Leigh Hobbs

From Local Boy to Laureate with Leigh Hobbs

When Leigh Hobbs was a little boy, his father gave him an alarm clock. The deal was that it would be set for 6am and only after it went off was Hobbs allowed to start drawing. He doesn’t know what happened to the clock, but his father also gave him a drawing board that he uses to this day. It has been the solid foundation for thousands of his distinctive illustrations.

As a boy growing up in Williamstown, internationally renowned children’s author and illustrator, Leigh Hobbs had two dreams – to be an artist and to travel to London.  Join Sally Rippin as she asks our very own Australian Children’s Laureate about that cat, that chicken, hard work and making dreams come true.
