Tom Spurling

Tom Spurling is Professor, Innovation Studies in the Centre for Transformative Innovation at Swinburne University of Technology. He was a member of the CSIRO Board and is a Fellow of ATSE. He is a physical chemist by training and worked with CSIRO for more than 30 years. He was a member of the team that developed polymer banknotes. In recent years he has written extensively about innovation policy and the history of Australian science and innovation. His recent work includes a book on the development of Australia’s polymer banknotes, ‘The Plastic Banknote’ (with David Solomon) and a paper ‘The Science and Industry Endowment Fund-supporting the development of Australian science’ (with Susan Smith).
