Robert La Nauze is a chemical engineer with a research and technology background. From 1989 to 1997 he was Chief of the CSIRO Minerals Division. He then joined WMC Resources Ltd as General Manager Technology before establishing his own consultancy. La Nauze has published extensively on specialist engineering subjects. Now, well into his second career, he is an exhibiting artist and was President of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists from 2006 to 2009. Engineer to Marvellous Melbourne, published in 2011, deals with the development of Melbourne’s sewerage system through the life of its prime architect, William Thwaites. His book was short-listed for the 2012 Victorian Community History Awards.
