Peter Hemphill

Peter Hemphill is the current Mayor of Hobsons Bay City Council. He was elected to the council in 1999 and previously served as Mayor in 2008-09. He is an award-winning journalist with The Weekly Times newspaper. Peter has a particular interest in history, dating back to high school days when he began a family history project. He is a genealogist and is currently researching the Hemphill family history in Australia, the US and Northern Ireland with the intention of writing a book within a couple of years. He was the foundation president of the Williamstown Maritime Association and currently sits on the board of the Seaworks Foundation in Williamstown. Both organisations aim to preserve and promote the area’s rich maritime history. Find Peter at:
