Ian Rae

Professor Ian Rae is a former President of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. For over 30 years he has written a monthly column (mostly about the history of chemistry) for their magazine Chemistry in Australia. He provides media comment on chemicals in the environment, has a substantial list of published work on historical aspects of chemistry in Australia and internationally, and has been an advisor to the United Nations Environment Programme since the mid-1990s. His essays on local history have appeared in Timeball Times, the newsletter of the Williamstown Historical Society (he’s a life member) since 1998.
