Nick Gadd (Walking and Writing the Suburbs)
Nick spoke without notes about his award-winning blog Melbourne Circle, while his daughter operated the power point showing fascinating photos taken on Nick’s walks around Melbourne suburbs. The audience would call out “I’ve seen that one” or “I used to go to that derelict cinema in the old days”. They were obviously inspired to get out and walk the streets and reserves with a camera and notebook, to find their own version of the hidden or forgotten places of the city. They were particularly taken with the story of the “celebrated specialist” Dr King, who, despite his huge 1890 advertising signs (now ghost signs), turned out to be a fraud. Or was he?
